Bourses failed to sustain upsurge

DHAKA, Oct 16, 2019 (BSS) – Country’s premier bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange
(DSE), failed to uphold the upsurge of previous day.

The broad index, DSEX closed in red again at 4781.62 points on Wednesday
with a loss of 40.01 points or 0.82 percent.

Besides, the two selective indices, DSE30 also declined by 18.65 points
while the Shariah index, DSES decreased by 9.92 points to stand at 1685.46
points and 1099.75 points respectively.

On the DSE trading floor, a total number of 98,321 trades were executed in
today’s trading session with a trading volume of 94.76 million securities.

Besides, the trading activities have decreased by 1.0pc over last session
and turnover stood at Taka 3.24 billion.

Losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 354 issues traded, 65
securities gained price while 259 declined and 30 remained unchanged.

Investors’ interest was mostly on engineering, general insurance and
pharma as the sectors dominate turnover distribution. BSC contributed 6.60pc
to the total turnover today.

Sector wise performance exposed that bank(0.4pc), general insurance(0.1
pc) and life insurance (0.1pc) sectors experienced marginal price
appreciation while jute (-4.2pc), it(-2.9pc) and textile (-2.3pc) sectors
experienced highest price correction.

The top 10 gainers were Popular Life Insurance, Shahjalal Islami Bank,
GlaxoSmithkline, Asia Insurance, Paramount Insurance, Reckitt Benckiser, Bank
Asia, Prime Insurance, Northern General Insurance and City General Insurance.

BSC topped the turnover chart followed by National Tubes, Summit Power,
Grameenphone, Standard Ceramics, Fortune Shoes, Monno Stafflers, Square
Pharma, Paramount Insurance and Monno Ceramics.

The top 10 losers Khan Brother, Alhaj-Tex, RN Spinning, Meghna Paint,
BFIC, Standard Ceramics, Tasrifa Industries, ICB AMCL 2 Mutual Fund, LRB
Global Mutual Fund 1 and CAPM IBBL Mutual Fund.

On the other hand, the port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)
also registered a downbeat again after the sharp rise of previous days. CSCX
and CASPI increased by 149.33 points and 242.81 points to stand at 8899.55
points and 14646.99 points respectively.

At CSE, a total of 5,895,453 shares and mutual fund of 247 companies were
traded, of which 59 issues advanced while 159 declined and 29 issues remained
unchanged.
