Momen off to Europe focusing economic diplomacy

DHAKA, Oct 16 (BSS) – Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen today left here for a two-week visit to four European nations for giving a boost to the country’s economic diplomacy as well as mounting further international pressure on Myanmar in resolving the Rohingya crisis.

“We would like to increase our export there (Europe) and apart from that I will raise the Rohingya issue during my entire tour,” he told reporters on Tuesday afternoon while making remarks about his tour to Germany, France, Italy and Greece.

During the visit, Momen said he will try to explore new avenues in Europe to realize the government’s plan to diversify its export basket.

Apart from the export, the foreign minister said that he would also try to dig out new opportunities of overseas employment in Europe for the country’s human resources.

The foreign minister will visit Germany first till October 19 and from there he will travel to France for a three-day visit from October 20 to 22, a foreign ministry official said.

Momen will hold bilateral meetings with his German and Fence counterparts during the visit, he added.

In France, he will also attend an Economic Forum meeting, to be organised by the French Senate.

The foreign minister will visit Italy on October 27 and Greece from October 28 to 29.

Meanwhile, Momen will join the 18th NAM ministerial meeting from October 23 to 24 in Baku, Azerbaijan while Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to attend the NAM Summit there from October 25 to 26.

The foreign minister is scheduled to return home on October 30.
