60kg Hilsa seized in Barishal
DHAKA, Oct 15, 2019 (BSS) – Conducting drives at different parts of
Barishal and Patuakhli districts, members of Bangladesh Navy have seized 60
kilograms of Hilsa and current nets.
The Naval ship Teesta conducted drives on 13-14 October in Laharhat,
Patarhat, Sripur, Veduria, Ulaniya, Babuganj, Hijla, Mehendiganj and
Vashanpur upazila of Barisal district and seized 60kg of Hilsa fish and 3.51
lakh meter of current net, said a press release today.
The Naval ship LCVP-011 also conducted drives in Rangabali, Dhankhali,
Panpotti, Patua upazila of Patuakhali district and seized 50,000 meters of
current net.
The seized current nets have been destroyed while the Hilsa have been
distributed to local orphanages, the release added. The government has
imposed a 22-day ban on catching, selling, hoarding and transporting Hilsa
from October 9 to 31 to ensure the safe spawning of the popular fish during
its peak breeding period.
