BUET students postpone street protests

DHAKA, Oct 15, 2019 (BSS) – The agitating students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) who were demanding justice for the killing of BUET student Abrar Fahad today postponed their protests observing administration’s positive attitude about meeting their demands.

However, the students declared to boycott all kind of academic activities until the permanent expulsion of Abrar’s murderers. The students came up with these remarks at a press briefing held at BUET Shaheed Minar today.

“Though we have postponed our demonstrations from the streets, we will monitor whether the administration ensures meeting all our demands properly. We will not take part in academic activities including classes and exams till the administration permanently expels all those accused based on the findings of the charge sheet [of Abrar murder case],” said a spokesperson from the demonstrating students.

The spokesperson on behalf of the BUET students thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her assistance that cleared the way to ensure justice for Abrar’s murder.

On October 15, BUET authorities temporarily suspended 19 students who were mentioned in the First Information Report (FIR). A case was filed against them on October 7 with Chowk Bazar police station.

A mass oath will be taken tomorrow noon with the participation of teachers and students against all kinds of violence, terrorism and communalism, a fourth-year student of mechanical engineering department Antora Tithi told BSS.
