Another accused remanded in Abrar killing case

DHAKA, Oct 15, 2019 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today placed another accused
on four-day fresh remand in a case lodged over beating (BUET) student Abrar
Fahad to death at the wee hours of October 7.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sorafuzzaman Ansari placed Samsul Arefin
Rafat on four-day fresh remand as investigation officer and detective branch
(DB) inspector Wahiduzzaman produced him before court and pleaded for seven-
day remand.

Meanwhile, another accused Md Moniruzzaman Monir today confessed his
involvement in the killing, giving his statement under section 164 before the
same court. After recording his confessional statement, the court sent him to
jail. The court also sent another accused Md Akash to jail today.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain on October 9 placed the
trio on five-day remand as police pleaded to place them on 10-day remand
each.

Police on October 8 arrested Rafat from capital’s Jhigatola area, Monir
from Demra and Akash from Baipail area of Gazipur.

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) students and
the varsity authorities found Abrar, 22, on first-floor stairs of Sher-e-
Bangla Hall and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where
doctors declared him dead at around 6.30 am.

Abrar’s father filed the case with Chawkbazar Police Station against 19
people.
