Four robbers killed in Sundarbans gunfight

KHULNA, Oct 15, 2019 (BSS) – Four suspected forest robbers were killed in
a gunfight with law enforcers in the Sundarbans under Koyra upazila early
Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as gang leader Aminur Rahman, 37, Rafiqul
Islam, 35, Akterul, 34, and Satish Kumar, 32.

Being informed that some forest robbers took position in the Sundarbans, a
team of RAB-6 conducted a drive in the deep forest in the early hours today,
said special company commander (Acting) of RAB-6 M Tofazzel Hossain.

Sensing the presence of the elite forces, the robbers opened fire on them,
forcing them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight which continued for some
time, he said.

Later, the Rab members recovered four bullet-hit “robbers” and took them
to Koyra Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead, Tofazzel
added.

Arms and huge ammunitions were recovered from the spot, he said, adding
that two RAB men were also injured in the gunfight.

The robbers’ gang led by Aminur, hailed from Chadmukh village under
Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira, were involved robbery, extortion collection
and other criminal activities in the Sunderbans since long, he added.
