Lakshmi Puja celebrated

DHAKA, Oct 13, 2019 (BSS) – Lakshmi Puja, a religious festival of the Hindu community, was celebrated today with due religious fervor and enthusiasm.

Hindus worship Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, fortune and prosperity and lord Vishnu’s wife, on the full moon day in lunar month of Ashwin after the Durga Puja. This full moon day is also called Kajogari Purnima.

To welcome the goddess, devotees clean their houses, decorate them with finery, lights and artworks (Alpona) and prepare sweet treats and delicacies as offerings.

Devotees believe the happier Lakshmi is with the visit, the more she blesses the family with health and wealth.

In the capital Dhaka, Lakshmi Puja was performed at Dhakeshwari National Temple, Ramkrishna Math and Ramkrishna Mission, Shankharibazar, Tantibazar, Sutrapur, Farashganj, Lakshmibazar, Radhamadhab Bigraha Mandir and Radha Govinda Geo Temple.

The puja was held at temples and houses across the country.

Daylong rituals of Lakshmi Puja were performed. After the worshiping of goddess Lakhsmi, Anjali was offered at temples and homes followed by distribution of Prasad. The Hindus kept fasting on the day.
