DHAKA, Oct 13, 2019 (BSS) – Barishal Division became the only team in the opening round of the 21st National Cricket League (NCL) to earn full points by winning their game against Sylhet Division when they secured an innings and 13 runs victory at the Shaheed Kamruzzman Stadium in Rajshahi on Sunday.

The other Tier-2 game between Chattogram Division and Dhaka Metro ended in a draw. The two matches of Tier-1 also ended in a draw.

It was indeed a cakewalk for Barishal to seal the deal despite the first day’s game was washed out due to persistent rain.

Resuming their day on 27-2, Sylhet showed another miserable batting show to be all out for 132 in its second innings. That left them still needing 13 runs to make Barishal batting for the second time in the match.

Fast bowler Kamrul Islam Rabbi whose 6-24 shot Sylhet out for 86 in the first innings, remained wicket-less in the second innings but still Sylhet couldn’t avoid the innings defeat.

Tanvir Islam this time ran riot on them, grabbing 4-29. He was ably supported by Monir Hossain’s 3-21 and Nuruzzaman’s 2-32.

Wicket-keeper Jaker Ali was the highest scorer for Sylhet Division with 45 not out while opener Imtiaz Hossain made 35.

Barishal earlier were bowled out for 231 in their only innings. Kamrul Islam Rabbi was adjudged man of the match for his superior bowling show in the first innings that decided the course of the game.

The match between Chittagong and Dhaka Metro predictably ended in a draw after Mahmudullah Riyad hogging the headlines with his bowling. He also scored 63 runs in Metro’s only innings in the game and was adjudged man of the match.

Resuming the day on 349-7, Dhaka Metro was able to add just 5 runs to their overnight total before being bowled out for 354 runs. Apart from Mahmudullah’s 63, Zabid Hossain made 85 and No.10 batsman Shahidul Islam scored 83.

Chattogram, who scored 290 in its first innings, could manage 227-5 in their second knock before umpires called it a day. Masum Khan was the highest scorer with 61 not out while Pinak Ghosh and Tasamul Haque chipped-in-with 57 and 53 runs respectively. Tamim Iqbal made 46.

Like first innings, Mahmudullah also bagged 3-25 to end the match with six wickets.
