Indira for raising voice against child marriage
DHAKA, Oct 13, 2019 (BSS) -State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nessa
Indira today urged all section of people to raise voice against child marriage.
“People from all walks of life have been preventing child marriage across the country,” she
told this, while joining a human chain as the chief guest at Bangladesh Shishu Academy premises
here.
Department of Women Affairs organised the human chain marking the day against child marriage
with human chains program organised at various part of the country.
Representatives of government, non-governmental and various socio-cultural organizations
participated in the human chain from 11am to 12pm in all the districts and upazilas
simultaneously to commemorate the prevention of child marriage.
Expressing her solidarity at the Prevention of Child Marriage rally, the state minister said
the world leaders promised to end child marriage by 2030. She said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina
at the World Girls’ Summit in England in 2014 promised to bring child marriage rate of under
15-year child to zero by 2021, while one third of 15-18 years by 2021, adding, “Child marriage
will be eliminated by 2041.”
Secretary of the ministry Kamrun Nahar, Director General of Department of Women Affairs
Badrun Nessa and General Secretary of Bangladesh Mohila Parisad Maleka Banu spoke on the
occasion.
Representatives of various government, non-governmental organizations and organizations,
including Kajal Islam, executive director of National Women’s Organization, and Jyoti Lal Kuri,
Director General of Children’s Academy in Bangladesh joined the human chain.
