KDA implementing 4 projects worth Tk 1,057.62 crore for city uplift

KHULNA, Oct 13, 2019 (BSS) – The Khulna Development Authority (KDA) is implementing four development projects involving Taka 1,057.62 crore to improve the living standard of the city dwellers.

One of the projects is being implemented for widening and further developing the Khulna Shipyard Road from Rupsha traffic intersection to Hazrat Khanjahan Ali Bridge involving around Taka 385.79 crore, Md Arman Hossain, executive engineer of KDA, told BSS today.

Arman, also the project director, said the project includes constructing 3.78-km bituminous road carpeting, 7.56 km KCC drain with common duct, three bridges-culverts-sluice gates, 3,780-meter water, electricity (High-pressure 200 LED Poll) and gas supply lines along each lane of the four-lane road.

The KDA is also constructing another 10.1-km Satkhira Road and three link roads connecting City Bypass road at a cost of around Taka 394.67 crore, said Mozibur Rahman, authorised officer of KDA.

Mozibur, also the project director said, the 2.5-km four-lane road is being implemented from Nirala residential area to City Bypass road, 4.9-km two-lane from Gallyamari to Rayer Mahal and 2.7-km two-lane from Bastuhara link road to Arongghata road.

The road will have 2020 meter KCC drain and 19 culverts, one bridge and 2.5-km divider along with the installation of 5,040 meter water, power, gas and telephone lines.

At least 58 percent work on “Ahsanabad Residential Area Development Project” was completed. The Taka 269.43-crore project includes development of 730 residential and commercial plots.

The project will have bituminous carpeting road, KCC drain, mosque and temple, secondary transfer electricity station(STS), play ground, lake, police outpost, post office, clinic, kitchen market, shopping mall and water supply to the entire area, said Sabirul Alam, chief engineer of KDA, who is also the project director(PD) of Ahsanabad area development project.

“We have already acquired 90 acres of land under Chalk Ahsankhali Mouja for the project,” said Engineer Sabirul, adding that the project started in July, 2012 and will end in June, 2020.

KDA is also implementing another project titled “KDA Rest House” near the KDA Staff quarter in the city. The Taka 7.73-crore project began in January, 2013 and will end in December, 2019, he said.

At present, there are five more projects in the pipeline involving Taka 1808.94 crore.

Of the projects, Sheikh Russel Civic Center will be implemented to attract more visitors.

KDA has a plan to formulate a combined mega plan, after evaluating Khulna and Mongla master plan, to construct an overpass on Fulbari Railway crossing, modernize KDA inter-district bus terminal and construct a road from Barakpur to Chandanimahal. The KDA is also going to establish “Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Square”, said officials.
