Barbados clinches CPL title despite Shakib’s failure

DHAKA, Oct 13, 2019 (BSS) – Barbados Tridents won the Caribbean Premier
League (CPL) trophy for the second time when they broke the 11-match winning
streak of Guyana Amazon Warriors to secure a 27-run victory in the final at
Tarouba on Saturday, according to CPL website.

The victory came despite the failure of their ace Bangladeshi all-rounder
Shakib Al Hasan who couldn’t shine in any department. With willow, Shakib
made run-a-ball-15 before being run out and didn’t claim any wicket after
bowling two overs in which he conceded 18 runs.

Opting to bat first, Barbados racked up 173-6 with their No.7 batsman
Jonathon Carter hammering highest 27 ball-50, with four fours and as many
sixes. Opener Johnson Charles blasted 39 off 22 with six fours and one six.

In reply Guyana Amazon Warriors, who were seeking their maiden trophy was
restricted to 144-9. Opener Brandon King could only make some contribution
with 33 ball-43. Keemo Paul made 25.

Raymon Reifer caused the most damage for Guyana with 4-24 and he was ably
supported by Ashley Nurse and Harry Gurney’s two wickets haul.
