No child will remain homeless: Indira

DHAKA, OCT 12, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatunnesa Indira today said rehabilitation centre would be set up for street children in each district and upazila to empower the children to avert leading a miserable life.

“No child will lead a miserable life. As per the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Ministry for Women and Children Affairs has been running two street children rehabilitation centres in Karwan Bazar and Kamlapur area in the city. You are here today to establish your rights. So brave all fears and go ahead……,” she said.

The state minister was speaking as the chief guest at a seminar and prize giving ceremony at Bangladesh Shishu Academy Auditorium here.

Secretary of Ministry for Women and Children Affairs Kamrun Nahar presided over the meeting while chairman of Bangladesh Shishu Academy Laki Imam was present as special guest.

Project Director of Street Children Rehabilitation Centre Dr Abul Hossain gave a welcome speech at the seminar.

Indira said the number of street children is very high in Dhaka city, but the government has ensured education, recreation and technical education for them.

The ultimate goal of these rehabilitation centers is to reintegrate the street children into their families, she said.

Besides, Indira handed over prizes among the winners of the competition.
