BUET authorities launch drive against illegal occupants

DHAKA, Oct 12, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) authorities today conducted drive to vacate illegally occupied seats of its dormitories.

Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW) of BUET today started the drive and sealed off three rooms of two separate dormitories as they were illegally occupied.

Room No. 321 of Ahsan Ullah Hall occupied by Jami-us-Sani, president of BUET unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Room no. 3012 of Sher-e-Bangla Hall occupied by BCL’s BUET unit general secretary Mehedi Hasan Rasel were sealed off today as his studentship ended. Another room of Ahsan Ullah Hall was also sealed off because it was being used as an office of BCL, Professor Dr Mizanur Rahman, Director of DSW told BSS.

“We sealed off three rooms so far. The rooms of BCL president and general secretary were also vacated. Our drive against illegal occupancy and any kind of political activities will continue,” said Dr. Rahman.

BUET BCL general secretary Rasel is in custody in relation with the murder of Buet student Abrar Fahad at Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university on October 7.

Meanwhile, the authorities issued a notice before starting the drive against illegal occupants at Halls yesterday.

The notice signed by Acting Registrar Dr Md Saidur Rahman also said that if any student was found involved in organization-based politics, disciplinary actions will be taken against them.

Maximum punishment will also be ensured through trial by disciplinary committee if charges of ragging or torture were proved against anyone, the notice said.
