DHAKA, Oct 12, 2019 (BSS) – An international conclave focusing the issue of justice and accountability centring forcibly displaced Rohingyas will be held in The Hague, Netherlands, on October 18.
The Centre for Peace and Justice (CPJ) of BRAC University, Asia Justice Coalition, and the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) of Erasmus University Rotterdam of the Netherlands will jointly organise the meeting under three themes – atrocity, accountability and justice.
Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque will lead the Bangladesh delegation while Canada’s Special Envoy to Myanmar Bob Rae and Gambia’s Minister of Justice Abubacarr also attend the meeting along with numbers of international human rights and legal experts.
This was revealed today by CPJ Executive Director Manzoor Hasan at a press briefing at BRAC University here today.
Hasan said the crimes committed in Myanmar against Rohingyas have triggered a number of accountability initiatives, including a case before the International Criminal Court on forced deportation as a crime against humanity.
Currently, Bangladesh is hosting over 1.1 million forcefully displaced Rohingyas in Cox’s Bazar district and most of them arrived here since August 25, 2017 after a military crackdown by Myanmar termed as “textbook example of ethnic cleansing” by the UN.
