DHAKA, Oct 12, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Information Dr Md Murad Hasan today said the prevention of suicide should be started from the family.

“Short-term and long-term work plans will be taken soon involving different ministries to prevent suicide. Cooperation will also be extended to launch a helpline in this regard,” he said, addressing a seminar in the city, marking the World Mental Health Day.

Brighter Tomorrow Foundation (BTF) and Rotary Club organized the seminar with BTF President Jayasreee Jaman in the chair.

Murad said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s sincerity towards mental health is reflected when she sends greeting cards with the pictures drawn by autistic children on different occasions.

Noting that Prime Minister’s daughter Saima Wazed Putul is one of hundred innovative women in the world for working on mental health, the state minister for information said she is working not only for autistic children, but also for all patients of non-communicable diseases.

Member of Parliament Nahid Ijhar Khan, BTF advisor Dr Helal Uddin Ahmed and General Secretary Dr Farshid Bhuiyan, Rotary Club of Dhaka North West President Nahar Ferdousi Begum and former district governor of Rotary International Selim Reza addressed the seminar, among others.

Earlier, an awareness procession was brought from the Central Shaheed Minar and paraded main streets of Dhaka University campus.
