1,800 fishermen families to get VGF rice in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Oct 10, 2019 (BSS) – Some 1,800 fishermen families will get 36
tonnes of rice under special vulnerable group feeding (VGF) programme in
Rajshahi city and four upazilas in the district.

The fishermen families were brought under special VGF programme as they
remained abstained from fishing mother Hilsa fish in the river Padma here.

Under the programme, 579 fishermen will get 11.58 tonnes of rice in
Godagari Upazila, 493 fishermen to get 9.86 tonnes in Paba Upazila, 311
fishermen to get 6.22 tonnes in Bagha Upazila, 279 fishermen to get 5.58
tonnes in Charghat Upazila and 20 fishermen will get 2.76 tonnes of rice in
Rajshahi City Corporation area.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Aminul Haque told BSS that
distribution of the rice has already been started everywhere in the district
and the distribution process will complete by October 15.

District Fisheries Officer Alok Kumar Shaha here today said each of the
beneficiary families are getting 20 kilograms of rice during the mother Hilsa
fish conservation period from October 9 to 30.

He said the government has taken special initiative to make the drive of
conserving mother Hilsa fish successful. During the stipulated period, the
fishermen families remained abstained from fishing Hilsa fish will be given
special VGF food grains.

Besides, drives will be conducted in Padma River to conserve Hilsa fish in
association with RAB, BGB and Police, he added.

Alok Shaha said there is legal provision of sentencing one to two years
behind the bar against the law violators during the ban period.
