Sri Lanka U19 team to visit Bangladesh this month

DHAKA, Oct 8, 2019 (BSS) – While the Bangladesh Under-19 team is busy playing a five-match series in New Zealand, the BCB has arranged another series for them in a bid to keep them in continuous cricket ahead of the Youth World Cup.

This time, the BCB organized a two-match four-day and five-match one-day series with the Sri Lanka Under-19 team. The fixture of the series is yet to be decided but Sri Lanka is set to come here on October 23.

The BCB will basically form the team for the four-day series with the players who are outside of Under-19 team at the moment, said coach Sohel Islam.

But the main Under-19 team will play the five-match one-day series, he confirmed.

“I won’t say the team which will play the four-day series is a back-up team. This sort of team is formed for the first time for the Under-19 team. Like national team, we have some core group of players and some players out of core group. Basically to increase the number of players we introduced this system so that the competition level enhances,” Sohel Islam, who is now working with these U19 players, said here on Tuesday.”

Pacer Shahin Alam who couldn’t visit New Zealand with the team due to his sickness will play against Sri Lanka.

The pacer said his past performance against Sri Lanka boosted his confidence as he aims to make him available in the original U19 team again.

“I was away from cricket for almost 23 days. Since Sri Lanka is coming to our country, my target is to play well against them to keep me in the track. I have some good performance against them. I have four-wicket and five-wicket haul against them. So I am confident to do well,” he said.
