Celebration of Durga Puja ends in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Oct 08, 2019 (BSS) – The Sanaton community completed five-day
celebrations of the Durga Puja, their greatest religious festival, with
immersion of idols of goddess Durga amid due religious fervour in all the
eight districts of Rangpur division.

The Santan community celebrated this year Durga Puja through performing
religious rituals at record number of 5,385 Puja mandaps.

Tens of thousands of the Sanaton devotees, mostly, females, today thronged
Puja mandaps to have last look at goddess Durga seeking her blessings for
well-being of the nation and humanity as whole. They also fed goddess Durga
with sweets, put vermilion on her face and exchanged the same among
themselves at the Puja mandaps those wore festive looks everywhere.

In Rangpur city, the district and city units of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon
Parishad (BPUP) brought out separate ‘Shuvo Bijoya Dashami’ processions from
‘Paira Chattar’ and ‘Surovi Uddyan’ premises carrying idols of Devi Durga for
immersions into water bodies.

The district administration and Rangpur Metropolitan Police extended
assistance to the city and district units of BPUP in bringing out the ‘Shuvo
Bijoya Dashami’ processions carrying idols of Devi Durga by trucks amid tight
security measures.

General Secretary of the district unit of BPUP Dhiman Bhattacharya
delivered welcome speeches on the occasion.

The law enforcers were seen guarding the ‘Shuvo Bijoya Dashami’
processions in the city for immersion of Devi Durga and other idols since the
afternoon. Most of the idols of goddess Durga were immersed into the water
bodies of Mulatol Dighee, Dimla Mandir Dighee, Jailkhana Ghat, Doulatpur
Dighee, Rail Gate Dighee, the rivers Ghaghot and other water bodies in the
city and its surrounding areas.

Talking to BSS this evening, Acting President of district unit of BPUP
Ajoy Prasad Babon thanked the government, local administrations and law
enforcement agencies for ensuring complete security during the five-day
celebrations of the Durga Puja festival.

Earlier, the religious festival began on last Friday with ‘Bodhan’
(enlightenment) and the Sanaton community completed the five-day celebrations
with immersions of the idols on the ‘Bijoya Dashami’ since the afternoon
today. Similar reports of celebrations of the five-day Durga Puja festival
with immersions of idols have been received here from Lalmonirhat,
Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Gaibandha and Kurigram
districts of Rangpur division.
