App-based bicycle service Jobike launched in DU

DHAKA, Oct 7, 2019 (BSS) – Jobike, the country’s first mobile application-
based bicycle rental service company, launched its service in Dhaka
University today.

The service began as test run inside the campus through inauguration of
registration process for the students and teachers at a function at Dhaka
University Central Student Union (DUCSU), said a press release.

JoBike is a mobile application which enables users to find bicycles for
use on a temporary basis. After downloading application, users will have to
open an account and by scanning the QR code they can easily unlock the
bicycles for use.

Jobike introduced the service called “DU Chakkar” for students, teachers
and officials of Dhaka University in association with DUCSU.

Jobike Chief Executive Mehedi Reza said by rolling out their service at
Dhaka University they have set another benchmark for app-based bicycle
services in the country.

Students will enjoy first five minutes of ride at Taka 2.5 while the
following minutes will be counted at Taka 0.40, he added.

DUCSU student transport secretary Shams-E-Noman said the students have
already started to obtain their registration no. on Monday and the university
authorities will launch the service officially after reviewing challenges.

Bi-cycle stands at every dormitories, teachers and students centre, curzon
hall, arts faculty, business faculty, social science bhaban and central
library premises in the university have already been installed.

Officials said students, teachers and other staffs can register with the
services using their valid identity card.

Jobike started operation in January last year from Cox’s Bazar and later
the service expanded in Jahangirnagar University, Shahjalal University of
Science and Technology, Chattogram University and Mirpur DOHS area of Dhaka.
