Sheikh Hasina does not sign treaties in exchange of country’s interest: Hasan

DHAKA, Oct 7, 2019 (BSS) – Rebutting Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and left political leaders’ criticism over Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s recent visit to India, Awami League (AL) Publicity and Publication Secretary and Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said the Prime Minister does not strike any agreement at the cost of country’s interest.

“We have been benefited more in recent bilateral agreements with India during the visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. We will be economically benefited if India uses our Chattogram and Mongla ports. We will earn foreign currency,” he said.

He added, “But BNP and the left political leaders are spreading falsehood over the PM’s recent visit to India. They are saying that a treaty has been signed for exporting LPG gas to India. But, in reality, no agreement was signed in this regard”.

Hasan, also member-secretary of the AL’s Publicity and Publication Sub-committee, said this at a press conference here before a preparatory meeting regarding the upcoming council of the ruling AL slated for December 20-21 this year.

AL’s Publicity and Publication Sub-committee organized the meeting at AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office in the city with its Chairman and PM’s Political Affairs Advisor HT Imam in the chair.

AL publicity and publication secretary said the BNP and left political leaders always suffer from disappointment. “Even, they suffer from discontent about themselves. They can never be optimistic over anything,” Hasan added.

Replying to a question about the death of a student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), the information minister said the matter is under investigation. Legal action will be taken against those found guilty, he added.

Speaking at the press conference, HT Imam said the Prime Minister has started a drive to make the country free from stigma of corruption and crime.

The country was pushed into corruption and crime during the Hawa Bhaban regime and 1/11 was created due to their (BNP’s) criminal activities, he said, adding, “We do not want to see any repetition of the incident. So Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina started the drives against corruption, terrorism, drug abuse and extortion”.

Noting that the government’s target is to strengthen democracy by cleaning weeds, HT Imam urged everyone to work in this regard.

The meeting also discussed about holding a workshop titled ‘AL in Youths’ Thoughts’ on October 27 in Khulna and publishing second editions of two books on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of celebrating the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and ‘Mujib Year’ from March 17, 2020 to March 17, 2021.

Members of the AL’s Publicity and Publication Sub-committee AL Deputy Publicity Secretary Aminul Islam, Abul Kashem Humayun, Salah Uddin Ripan and Shah Mustafa Alamgir joined the meeting, among others.
