Mominul, Mehidy keeps Sri Lanka A at bay

DHAKA, Oct 5, 2019 (BSS) – Skipper Mominul Haque struck a brilliant 117 before Mehidy Hasan Miraj claimed 7-84 as visiting Bangladesh A took the upper-hand over Sri Lanka on the second day of the second four-day match at Hambantota on Saturday.

Opener Shadman Islam also stood tall with 77 runs, alongside Mominul to help Bangladesh A end the day two on 283-6, taking a 15 runs lead. Sri Lanka were bowled out for 268 runs in its first innings.

Mominul and Shadman added 154 runs for the third wicket stand to lift the side after they were reduced to 22-2.

The captain smashed 15 fours and one six in his 190 ball-115 while Shadman scored 77 off 104 with eight fours and one six.

After the partnership was broken with the dismissal of Shadman, Bangladesh lost some quick wickets before Nurul Hasan Sohan helped Bangladesh take the lead. Sohan was batting on 35, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz on 6.

Earlier, resuming the day on 223-5, Sri Lanka was bowled out for 268, losing five wickets for 45 runs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz destroyed their batting line up with gem of off-spin bowling that saw him taking 7-84 after delivering 37 overs. Ebadat Hossain took two wickets while Salahuddin grabbed one.
