Saif rues for missed chance in India

DHAKA, October 5, 2019 (BSS) – Saif Hasan, who led Bangladesh A team in the five-match series against India A last month rued for the missed chance as he believed they could have alter the series result if his batsmen had played to their true potentials.

Bangladesh A lost the series by 3-1, while the last game was washed out in their tour in India.

Some national players also played in the series as that was the part of Bangladesh’s preparation for their upcoming tour India in November.

“There were many positive aspects,” Saif said here on Saturday. “Though we couldn’t win the series, our stat was good. We bowled them out for 180. We needed to take that opportunity from there. It was a match which we could win. But batsman couldn’t play to their potential. We collapsed but the comeback was good. All together, batsmen couldn’t perform well. If the top order clicked well, we would have won one or two matches more. Bowlers bowled well and fielding was well too.”

All of the matches of the series were played in Lucknow’s Ekana Cricket Stadium.

“The wicket was so good there. It was a sporting wicket. We enjoyed playing there. The India A team was a strong side and I knew the most of the players because I played against them at aged level cricket.”

Saif however said they need to improve well in fielding too, which was not up to the mark as they let India A taking easy runs.

“I think we need to improve in fielding. Their fielding was really good. The game was really competitive. They said the same. The result is not the only thing. They won 3-1 but all the four matches were really well contested.”

“We started well but we couldn’t make the innings bigger. If we could have done it then the result would have been different. The match that we won, we scored 60 runs in 12 overs in opening. That match went good for us. So if the top order could stay longer then the result would have been different.”

After India series, Saif, who is considered as the next big thing of Bangladesh cricket, turned his focus for Sri Lanka series as he would be the part of Bangladesh A team’s one-day squad.

“I will try to focus first in the Sri Lanka series. Every match is important. National league is also very important. I will play from the second round of NCL when I will return. That is also in my plan.”
