Stocks maintain downtrend as major sector dip

DHAKA, May 29, 2018 (BSS) – Both the stock markets were down further on Tuesday due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities despite higher transactions.

The major falling sectors were insurance, financial institutions, textile and engineering. A total of 125 securities of the large-cap group incurred losses due to lower activities.

The major DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 7.72 points down at 5,409.70. The blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES also followed the same trend with 5.38 points down at 2,006.02 and with 3.55 points down at 1,253.92.

Out of 334 traded issues, 151 incurred loss when 138 closed with some gains. Most of the losing issues were from large-cap securities.

The day’s trade value at DSE increased to Taka 564.35 crore from Monday’s Taka 431.66 crore and the daily trade also rose to 13.08 crore shares from 11.36 crore shares of the previous session.

The major gaining issues were AIL, Beximco, Nahee Aluminum Composite Panel, Wata Chemicals and Monno Ceramics. The major losing issues were Central Insurance, Union Capital, ECABLES, ICBAMCL2ND and Modern Dying.

Beximco Limited topped the turnover list followed by INTRACO, Monno Ceramics, Nahee Aluminum Composite Panel and AIL.

Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also finished the Tuesday’s session in red with major CASPI index closing 38.98 points down at 16,703.08.

In CSE, out of the traded 229 issues, 73 advanced, 122 incurred loss and 34 remained static when 67.23 lakh shares worth Taka 20.70 crore changed hands.
