Three HuJI leaders placed on 4-day remand

DHAKA, Oct 3, 2019 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today placed three top leaders
of banned militant outfit Harkat ul Jihad-al Islami (HuJI) Bangladesh on
four-day remand each in a case lodged under anti-terror act.

The three accused are Atikullah alias Asadullah alias Julfikar, 49, Md
Borhan Uddin Rabbani, 42, and Mohammad Nazim Uddin alias Shamim, 43.

Police produced the three top militants before court and pleaded to put
them on 10-day remand. After hearing the plea, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate
Asheq Imam placed the three on four-day remand each.

Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka
Metropolitan Police arrested the three from Nikunj-2 area under Khilkhet
Police Station in the capital on October 2.

According to the police, Atikullah alias Asadullah was the organizing
secretary of Bangladesh chapter of HuJI, later he was also given
responsibility to look after the group’s funding and foreign relations.

He went to Pakistan on many occasions and even took part in war in
Afghanistan as a mujahideen. Atikullah is an explosives expert and believed
to be held meetings with Al-Qaida founder Usama Bin Ladin, his second in
command Aiman Al Zawahiri and Taliban founder Mollah Umar.

Of the other two arrestees, Shamim is the secretary of the militant
group’s Dhaka south unit and Rabbani was in charge of its Feni unit.

Police said the trio was hatching conspiracy to make country’s situation
unstable marking the ongoing crisis in Kashmir.

Police filed the case against them with Khilkhet Police Station.
