Disqualified cricketers to take part in beep test again on Oct 6

DHAKA, Oct. 3, 2019 (BSS) – The players who have failed to obtain expected mark in the recent beep test will get another opportunity on October 6 to meet the standard set by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to play the upcoming National Cricket (NCL).

The NCL is set to begin from October 10 and BCB made it clear a player won’t be available to play the country’s one of the major first class tournaments until he strikes 11 in beep test.

The fitness test is normally done through the beep Test which is a multi-stage fitness test used to measure cardiovascular fitness and maximum oxygen uptake.

In the wake of widespread criticism about players’ fitness, the BCB set beep test standard to 11 from 9 this year, which got mixed reactions from the players.

The new marking system is said to be the brain child of High Performance Unit head coach Simon Helmut as he made the proposal to the tournament committee for the NCL.

Last year BCB introduced the fitness test in the NCL and it was decided that players getting 9 points will be considered for the traditional first-class tournament but this year it had increased to 11 points.

But it had raised quite a few eyebrows as large numbers of cricketers complained that they did not get enough time to prepare them for the beep test as they were informed the only couple of days back about this development.

There were some notable failures among the senior cricketers in the beep test like Mohammad Ashraful, Abdur Razzak, Arafat Sunny, Elias Sunny, Nasir Hossain, Nadif Chowdhury and Mohammad Sharif are among the few who failed to cross the fitness hurdle put by BCB recently.

They were expected to have the second beep test on October 3 but BCB tournament committee official said now they have decided to hold the test on October 6.

NCL, country’s traditional first-class tournament, is expected to start from October 10 while it is expected to an exciting one considering the availability of national players who are all set to feature in the competition as they were told that no excuse will be accepted.
