Young Tigers seal 2nd straight win against NZ

DHAKA, October 3, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh Under-19 team took a 2-0 lead in the five-match Youth ODI series after securing a comprehensive six-wicket win over New Zealand youths in the second game at Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln on Thursday.

Bangladesh youths won the first match by same margin.

The second match was originally scheduled for Wednesday but had to be rescheduled due to rain.

Opting to bat first, the hosts put up 242-6 thanks to a magnificent 112 from Thomas Zohrab (112). He however stood tall amid the wickets tumbling around him and helped the side score a challenging total. Only Ollie White supported him with 30 runs.

For Bangladesh, Mrittunjoy Chowdhury took 2-41 in seven overs.

Unlike New Zealand, Bangladesh showed a total team effort to clinch their second victory in a row. Mahmudul Hasan Joy however played the anchor role but missed out the well-deserved century by just one run as he was dismissed on 99.

Thanks to his 125 ball-99 runs knock, including 10 fours, Bangladesh reached 243-4 in 46.3 to script the victory with utmost comfort.

Opener Tanzid Hasan scored 65 to give the side a good start. Towhid Ridoy was other notable scorer with 40.

For New Zealand, Jock McKenzie was the leading bowler with 2-39 in seven overs.

The remaining matches of the series are on October 6, 9 and 13 and will be played at the same venue.
