Preparation completes to observe Durga Puja in Khulna

KHULNA, Oct 3, 2019 (BSS) – All preparations have been completed to observe Durga Puja, the largest festival of the Hindu community, in the industrial Khulna city on October 4 with due religious fervor and enthusiasm.

Artists and idol-makers are working round the clock in giving last touch to the idol of the goddess Durga.

General Secretary of City Unit Puja Udjapon Parisad Prashanta Kumar Kundu told BSS that a total of 129 Durga Mandaps has been set up in the Metropolitan city while 974 Durga Puja Mandaps has been set up in all nine upazilas of the district to celebrate Durga Puja.

“Durga Puja will begin on October 4 in the city as elsewhere in the district, with due religious fervor and enthusiasm. The idols of goddess Durga have also been completed to celebrate the upcoming greatest religious festival Durga Puja with due religious gaiety in the district,” Kundu said.

After visiting different Puja mandaps in the city it was seen that the artists (Malarkars) were giving last finishing and final touches to the images of deities to make the idols very attractive and nice looking to the devotees and the visitors.

Some Hindu community members as well as people from all walks of life were seen crowding the temples and Puja mandaps to see their last preparation.

Talking to BSS, Birendranath Kumar Paul, an idol maker of Dharmasava Puja mandap in the city said this year the Pauls (idol-makers) to be earned more profit than last year.

He said the cost of raw materials including earth, rope, straw, bamboo and jute for idol shave have highly increased but their remuneration has increased a very few than the last several years.

Ranjeet Kumar Ghosh, a devotee, who supervises Dharmasava Puja Mandap in the city, told BSS that preparations for the Durga Puja have become costlier due to high price of the raw materials and increased charges of idol makers, purohits and dhakis.

While talking Shyamol Halder, President of City Unit Puja Udjapon Parisad said that at idols making have already completed both the city and district.

Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) and Khulna District Police authorities have separately taken adequate security measures for ensuing smooth celebration of Durga Puja.

KMP commissioner, Khandakar Lutful Kabir told BSS all kinds of security measures, uninterrupted electricity supply and traffic management would be ensured for peaceful celebration of Puja festival.
