DHAKA, Oct 02, 2019 (BSS) – Speakers at a human chain in the city today demanded forming a judicial commission to investigate the ‘so-called’ military coup during the regime of Ziaur Rahman.

Amra, a platform of victims after the coup in 1977, including the then army and navy personals and their family members, demanded forming the judicial commission at a human chain in front of Jatiya Press Club here.

Justice HM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik addressed the programme as the chief guest while AKM Bahauddin Bahar, MP, brother of sergeant Moinuddin, a victim of Bangladesh Navy in October 2, 1977, former state minister for information Tarana Halim, former lawmaker Mahjabin Khaled and AL leader Habibullah Tuhin, among others, also spoke. Former sergeant Enamul Haque, a victim, was in the chair.

Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury said Ziaur Rahman was an inferior ruler and a cool-headed killer and more cruel then Hitler. He (Zia) had no humanity and that’s why he wore black sunglasses so that none can see his eyes, he added.

He said Zia had worked for Pakistani intelligence force ISI during the War of Liberation. He killed hundreds of army and navy personals and freedom fighters after capturing power illegally through military conspiracy, Chowdhury added.

Bahauddin said, “We, four brothers, took part in the War of Liberation. Ziaur Rahman killed one of my brothers.” Now, it is the responsibility of the government to unveil the mask of Zia by forming a judicial commission, he added.

Tarana said the October 2, 1977 killing incident is one of the worst incidents in the history. Around 1400 army and navy personals were killed inhumanely on that day through the military tribunal in the name of so-called trial, she added.
