DHAKA, Oct 1, 2019 (BSS) – Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the ongoing anti-graft drive is not against any particular party or group, reiterating that no one involved in corruption would be spared and the drive would continue.

“The drive will continue against those involved in corruption, irregularities and casinos. No one involved in these misdeeds will be spared,” Quader, also general secretary of Awami League, told a press briefing at his secretariat office here.

He said if there is enough evidence of someone getting involved in corruption, he or she will be arrested. “The government wants to punish corrupt people starting from its home. The ruling party is carrying out a cleaning drive, which is unprecedented in Bangladesh,” he added.

Noting that many of those involved in wrongdoings are now under surveillance of intelligence agencies, Quader said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returned home and the drive will be carried out against more wrongdoers.

He said the country’s all people, except BNP, are happy over the drive as it hampered the party’s movement. “BNP did not take action against any corrupt leader during its tenure. But, Awami League has started the cleaning drive from its own house.”

The AL general secretary warned that apart from politicians, if allegations surface in other sectors, probes will be carried out.

About BNP leader Moudud Ahmed’s comments over the wealth statements of ministers and MPs, Quader said Moudud should make his wealth statement public as he was arrested many times on graft allegations.

“We (ministers and MPs) submit our wealth statements to the Prime Minister and pay tax every year,” he said, urging media outlets to publish reports if they find anomalies on the income and expenditure of ministers and MPs.
