Food friendly programme benefiting poor in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Oct 01, 2019 (BSS) – The food-friendly programme is benefiting
8.47-lakh poor families of Rangpur division by providing them with 30-kg rice
each month at Taka 10 per kg for five months annually in two phases during
seasonal lean periods.

Officials at the office of Rangpur Regional Controller of Food said every
card holder family are getting 30-kg rice every month for September, October
and November in the second phase now after getting the same for March and
April this year.

Talking to BSS, some card holder beneficiary families expressed happiness
after receiving 30-kg rice at Taka 10 per kg for September under the
programme of the government.

Female day-labourers Shahida Begum and Golapi Begum of village Keshobpur
Pashchimpara in Saddyapuskorini union of Rangpur said they received 30
kilogram rice each last month to meet food demand of their family members.

Poor housewives Sakina Begum of village Baniyapara, Moslem Khatun and
Lailey Begum of village Palichara Baluapara in the union said they will get
30-kg rice each soon for October this week after getting the same for
September.

“I am passing my days with my six family members easily after getting 30-kg
rice per month at Taka 10 per kg at this seasonal lean period,” said day-
labourer Rashida of village Ramjibon.

Saddyapuskorini union Chairman Sohel Rana said he is distributing 61.05
tonnes of rice allocated by the government with 30-kg among each of the 2,035
card holder beneficiary families of his union every month for five months a
year in two phases.

Day-labourers Monwara and Khadija of village Iswarpur, Lutfun of village
Shyampur and Aklima of Lahirirhat in Chandanpat union here said they received
30 kilogram rice in September to meet food demand of their family members.

“It is amazing to me that rice could be purchased at Taka 10 per kilogram
at such a time when the course quality rice is being sold at rates between
Taka 25 and 35 per kg in open markets,” said Monwara.

Farm-labourer Anufa of village Iswarpur, Sahida and Bulbuli of village
Srirampur said they got 30-kg rice at Taka 10 per kg to feed their family
members and they will get the same for October and November during this lean
season.

Talking to BSS, Chairman of Chandanpat union Amenur Rahman said he
distributed 55.11 tonnes of rice at Taka 10 per kg among each of the 1,837
card holder families of his union for September after getting allocation from
the department of food.

“I am preparing to distribute another 55.11 tonnes of rice each for
October and later in November next under the programme among the 1,837
beneficiary families,” he said.

He also distributed 30-kg rice at Taka 10 per kg among each of the
beneficiary families during March and April this year.

Similarly, card holder beneficiaries Joytsna Rani, Jamuna Rani, widow
Shanti Rani, Manik Chandra and Sunil Chandra of village Gangadas Baraipara in
Haridebpur union here said they got 30-kg rice each at Taka 10 per kg for
September.

Chairman of Haridebpur union Iqbal Hossain said he distributed 69.75 tonnes
of rice with 30-kg among each of the 2,325 card holder families of his union
for September.

“I am now preparing to distribute more 69.75 tonnes of rice each for
October and November next,” he said adding that distributed the same among
2,325 beneficiary families every month in last March and April.

Similarly, card holder beneficiaries of many other areas of Rangpur
division expressed happiness after getting 30 kilogram rice at Taka 10 per
kg.

Talking to BSS today, Rangpur Regional Controller of Food Agriculturist
Raihanul Kabir said over 8.47 lakh beneficiary families are getting 30-kg
rice each at Taka 10 per kg in Rangpur division under the food-friendly
programme.

“Some 25,411 tonnes of rice is being sold to card holder beneficiaries of
all eight districts in Rangpur division every month for five months in two
phases during the lean seasons annually,” he added.
