Coordinated technology use will expedite development: Nasrul

DHAKA, Sept 30, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said coordinated use of technology will expedite development in the country.

“Modern technologies ensure transparency and accountability in the official work and also assist to avoid unnecessary products. So we are encouraging for modern technology in every sector,” he said while inaugurating a conference as the chief guest at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC).

Asian Development Bank (ADB) organised the two-day conference titled on ‘Harnessing Block-chain Technology for Development: Unleashing the Potential of Bangladesh for Block-chain Application’.

Nasrul said potentiality of block-chain is being increased gradually due to decentralization, transparency and technology, adding, “Block chain method would play an active role in power and energy sector for ensuring transparency and accountability.”

“In all of these sectors, smart contracts and distributed ledgers will bring transparency and trust. Any nascent technology will have its challenges,” he said.

The state minister, however, said challenges would have to face for introducing any new technology but training is needed for facing such of these challenges, adding, “We have constituted Bangladesh Power Management Institute and Energy and Power research Council for training and incentive.”

State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak presented the keynote paper in the conference and said the main factors for development includes human resources development, industrial growth, setting up connectivity and make fully digital Bangladesh.

“We are working to create 20 lakh employments in IT sector, $ 5 billion revenue collection and provide internet service to 90 percent of people across the country,” he said.

Among others, lawmaker Selima Ahmed and country director of ADB Manmohan Prakash spoke in the conference.
