Good environment stressed for child-friendly schools

RANGPUR, Sept 30, 2019 (BSS) – Speakers at a workshop today stressed on
ensuring inclusiveness, pleasant classroom environment, interactive pedagogy,
helpful governance and community engagement for contributing to making child-
friendly schools.

They made these observations at inauguration session of the orientation
workshop on ‘District Resource Team (DRT)’ arranged under the School
Effectiveness Programme-2019 held at the district primary education office in
the city.

The district primary education office in collaboration with the
Directorate of Primary Education organised the workshop with assistance of
UNICEF Bangladesh.

The UNICEF supported School Effectiveness Programme includes financial
support to selected schools, capacity building of teachers and school
management committees, increasing quality of interactive learning process,
extracurricular activities, improving monitoring and community engagement to
improve school environment.

District Primary Education Officer for Rangpur Md. Shahidul Islam chaired
the event participated by the district and upazila level primary education
officials of the district.

Rangpur Divisional Deputy Director for Primary Education Md. Abdul Wahab
addressed the event as the chief guest.

UNICEF Rangpur Office Chief Najibullah Hameem spoke as special guest at
the workshop which is a part of implementation of the School Effectiveness
Programme-2019 in 32 government primary schools across Rangpur district.

Abdul Wahab urged all education officials to translate their training
and knowledge into enabling working environment and learning outcomes
conducive for ensuring quality education and well-being of children.

Najibullah Hameem stressed on the utter importance on ensuring quality
education and capacity building of the teachers and members of the school
managing committees for making the primary level schools more child-friendly.

“When our children feel happy, safe and protected in schools, then
schools become child-friendly and effective in the factual sense”, Hameem
observed while reiterating continuous UNICEF support for education sector in
Rangpur region.

UNICEF Education Officer Sifat-e-Islam and Communication for Development
Officer Monjur Ahmed also spoke on the occasion.
