RAJSHAHI, Sept 30, 2019 (BSS)- The National Day of the Daughters Child-
2019 was observed here like other parts of the country today in a befitting
manner with the call of ensuring equal rights to the girl child to make them
equally worthy citizens for attaining substantial and sustainable national
uplift.

District administration and Department of Women Affairs in association
with various others government and non-government development organizations
including educational institutions organized a bicycle rally for the
schoolgirls and discussion meeting.

Chaired by Deputy Commissioner Hamidul Haque, the meeting held at the
collectorate building premises was addressed, among others, by Additional
District Magistrate Nazrul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education
and ICT) Shariful Haque, Deputy Director of Department of Women Affairs
Shirin Sobnam and District Children Affairs Officer Monzur Kader.

They unanimously stressed the need for ensuring education, health care,
equal rights, safety and security for every girl child besides stopping child
marriage and all sorts of violence against them.

DC Hamidul Haque said children particularly the girls living in the slums
should not be allowed to beg on the streets.

Ensuring safety and security for girls through combating all sorts of
violence especially sexual harassment against them is very important for the
girls to become worthy citizens.

Sexual harassment restricts girl’s rights to education, rights to
mobility, rights to freedom and rights to life.

Terming child marriage as the major violence and gross violation of human
rights, he said there is no alternative to prevent the child marriages.
Community support is very important to attain the cherished goal, he added.
