Rangpur health sector gets infrastructural uplifts

RANGPUR, May 29, 2018 (BSS) – The Health Engineering Department (HED)
has implemented 44 infrastructural projects at Taka 58.40-crore in last nine
years improving health service facilities for the common people in the
district.

As a result of massive infrastructural developments in the health
sector, the common people are getting better health and medicare services in
congenial environment from the health service.

“The infrastructural development projects include constructions of an
Institute of Health Technology, up-gradation of five 31-bed upazila health
complexes to 50-bed, an EPI store and 27 community clinics,” Executive
Engineer of HED Md Saiful Islam said.

He said the HED has completed construction works to upgrade 31-bed
upazila health complexes at Gangachara, Pirganj, Badarganj, Kawnia and
Pirgachha upazilas to 50-bed during the period.

The buildings of five union health and family welfare centres have been
constructed at Nohali union in Gangachara upazila, Tambulpur and Kandi unions
in Pirgachha upazila, Hariarkuthi union in Taraganj upazila and Ramnathpur
union in Pirganj upazila.

“Two buildings of the Khalashpeer 10-bed maternity and child welfare
centre and Madarganj 10-bed maternity and child welfare centre in Pirganj
upazila have been constructed during the period in the district,” Saiful
Islam said.

He said the office-cum-store building of Kawnia upazila family planning
officer in Kawnia upazila town and an EPI store room in Sadar upazila have
been constructed.

Besides, the new buildings of 27 community clinics have been constructed
in all eight upazilas raising the number of service-producing community
clinics to 310 in the district.

“The HED has constructed the Institute of Health Technology and vertical
extension works of its female hostel at Tazhat area in the city,” Saiful
Islam said.

Talking to BSS, Civil Surgeon of Rangpur Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said
the massive infrastructural developments during the past nine years have
substantially improved health service providing facilities and environment in
the district.

“The common people are now getting health services easily from the
upazila health complexes, union health and family welfare centres and
community clinics at their doorsteps,” Dr Islam added.

Community Health Care Provider Nazma Khatun at newly constructed
Gokulpur Community Clinic under Haridebpur union of Sadar upazila here said
on average 40 patients come to the clinic daily to receive health services
and 31 types of medicines are provided free of costs.
