JS body for severing all illegal power connections

DHAKA, Sept 29, 2019 (BSS) – The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry today recommended taking steps to severe all illegal power connections.

The meeting suggested to the ministry to gear up the regular monitoring activities to identify illegal gas and power connections and bring the system loss under tolerable stage alongside fixing it at a standard level.

The recommendation was made at the seventh meeting of the committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Chaired by committee chairman Md Shahiduzzaman Sarkar, the meeting was also joined, among others, by State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, Md Ali Asgar, Md Nurul Islam Talukder, Md Aslam Hossain Sawdagar, Mrs Khaleda Khanam and Begum Nargis Rahman.
A multimedia presentation was made on the plan and the process of implementation by the ministry for increasing power generation to 23,000 MW and making 96 percent power coverage by 2020.

Dwelling on the challenges of the plan taken by the ministry, the meeting called for overcoming the challenges to ensure supply of 5,000 mmcfd gas by 2023.

Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Munim and other officials concerned were present at the meeting.
