KHULNA, Sept 29, 2019 (BSS)- The government will distribute 475 tonnes of
rice among 550 puja mandaps in nine upazilas and metropolitan area of the
district ahead of durga puja tomorrow.
Durga Puja, the biggest and sacred festival of the Hindu community which
will begin on October 4 in the city as elsewhere in the district with the
incarnation (Bodhon) of the goddess Durga on panchomi and formal celebration
of maha sashthi at all temples in Khulna.
On the occasion, the authorities will distribute 500-kg rice to each puja
mandaps of the district.
Khulna District Relief and Disaster Management Officials said a total of 41
tonnes of rice will be distributed among 82 puja mandaps in Dakop upazila, 52
tonnes among 104 puja mandaps in Batiaghata upazila, 30 tonnes among 60 puja
mandaps in Dighalia upazila, 36 tonnes among 72 puja mandaps in Rupsha
upazila, 16 tonnes among 32 puja mandaps in Fultala upazila, 27 tonnes among
54 puja mandaps in Koyra upazila, 74.5 tonnes among 149 puja mandaps in
Paikgachha upazila, 52 tonnes among 104 puja mandaps in Terokhada upazila and
98.5 tonnes among 197 puja mandaps in Dumuria upazila.
Besides, over 48 tonnes of rice will be distributed among 96 puja mandaps
in metropolitan area of the city.
The government has distributed the rice before durga puja every year, said
Director of District Relief and Disaster Management Department Azizul Islam
Zoadder today while talking to BSS.
