DHAKA, Sept 28, 2019 (BSS) – Speakers at a roundtable here emphasized
strengthening hands of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for building a secular
country.
“The defeated force of 1971 made their presence felt on many occasions
in the past. But we have been able to crush them under the leadership of
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Now we have to strengthen her hands to build a
secular country,” said Awami League joint general secretary Abdur Rahman, MP.
Valiant Freedom Fighter and former Army Chief Lt Gen (retd) M Harun-Ar-
Rashid in his speech said a new kind of spirit was created from 1975 to 1996
after the brutal killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman.
“We have to try to build a secular country by recalling those days,” he
said.
They came up with the observations while addressing a roundtable tilted
“Not Communalism, Need Humane Bangladesh” organized by Jangibad o Samprodayik
Protirodh Morcha, a platform against communalism and militancy at CIRDAP
auditorium.
Presided over by morcha’s convener Dr Tureen Afroz, the roundtable was
conducted by its chief coordinator FM Shahin. Supreme Court lawyer Barrister
Farzana Mahmud presented keynote paper on the occasion.
Dhaka University pro-VC Prof Dr Muhammad Samad called for narrating to
new generation the brutal crimes committed by killers of 1971.
“To get rid of communalism, we have to promulgate one thing and that is
we all are human being and friends of each other,” he said.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Museum curator Md Nazrul
Islam Khan stressed on providing equal rights to each and every citizens for
building a secular country.
