World Tourism Day celebrated in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Sept 27, 2019 (BSS) – The World Tourism Day-2019 was celebrated
in the district as elsewhere in the country and the globe today in a
befitting manner.

The theme of this year’s World Tourism Day ‘Tourism and Jobs: A better
Future for All’

Marking the day, the district administration chalked out the elaborate
programmes that included bringing out rally, arrangement of essay writing
competition and prizes distribution to the winners.

Apart from it, a discussion organized by district administration was also
held at the conference room of the District Collectorate Building here this
morning around 10am.

Acting deputy commissioner (DC) Rokhsana Begum addressed the discussion
meeting as the chief guest and civil surgeon Dr. ABM Abu Hanif, additional
police super Anwar Hossain, and general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League,
district unit, Abu Bakar Siddique were present at the event as the special
guests.

Presided over by additional deputy commissioner (General) Alamgir Kabir
Saikat, the function was also addressed, among others, by coordinator of SKS
Foundation Ashraful Alam and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman while nezarat
deputy collector Shahidul Islam was the moderator.

The speakers in their speeches underscored the need for flourishing the
tourism sector through cordial efforts of the government and the non-
government entrepreneurs.

The tourism industry would help the country reach its desired destination
and attain the cherished goals side by side with creating working
opportunities freshly to the unemployed youths, they said.

Acting DC Rokhsana Begum in her speeches said the present government led by
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took the initiatives to promote the tourism
industry of the country to attract natural, historical sites and cultural
activities to the foreign tourists.

The World Economic Forum has recently published a report on tourism titled
“Travel and Tourism Competitive Report-2019”, ranking Bangladesh 120th.
Bangladesh’s earlier rank was 125th, she also said.

The discussion was followed by a cultural function where a number of
artistes rendered songs to entertain the participants.

A large number of people from all walks of life including officials, social
workers, students and teachers including journalists of print and electronic
media participate in the programmes spontaneously.
