DHAKA, Sept 26, 2019 (BSS) – In its intensified health-centric efforts, the government has envisioned multifarious rehabilitation and treatment programmes to bring down the number of children with hearing impairment.
This was stated today by Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed while addressing as the chief guest the Cochlear implant assignment letters distribution ceremony at the National Institute of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), here.
Once regarded as burdens for the family and the society as well, the disabled persons have now been mainstreamed, enjoying all civic facilities, he said.
“The government is providing proper medication like Cochlear implant to the deaf and dump children. In future, no child will suffer from disabilities of hearing”, the minister said.
“With Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina piloting the humanitarian initiatives, people with disabilities are now a part and parcel of the mainstream society. They are no longer burdens for their family or the society”, Nuruzzaman said.
The minister said that the government has taken a plan to bring hundreds of disabled people under the network of allowance.
A nationwide disability survey program is underway as part of a larger program to improve the quality of life for the disabled, he said, adding that the Disability Development Foundation is providing assistance to all types of people with disabilities.
He also said the government will continue to provide the necessary financial support in this sector to enable the hearing impaired people a normal life through cochlear implants”, the minister said.
The programme was presided over by Director of National ENT Institute Dr Md Abu Hanif.
Professor Pran Gopal Datta and Major General Fasiur Rahman, Director General of Medical Services of Bangladesh Armed Forces, also spoke, among others.
