Nothing to learn from Afghanistan: Mahmudullah

DHAKA, Sept 25, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad
revealed that they have nothing to learn from Afghanistan although the
cricket’s newest nation gave them a torrid period in the just concluded tour.
He said that they were not good enough in the series which is why Afghanistan
could rule them.

Bangladesh, who is considered to be a tough team to beat at their own den,
lost their only Test match against Afghanistan by 224 runs in Chattogram.

Though they won their last Twenty20 match against Afghanistan in the Tri-
nation T20 trophy to end their losing jinx against their Asian team they were
beaten by the visitors in the opening group phase match to earn their fourth
successive losses in the shortest format during the last five years.

”I do not think we have got anything to learn from Afghanistan,” said
Mahmudullah.

“We make too many mistakes that’s why the result was not good for us,” he
added.

Mahmudullah pointed out the fact that they have to do better in decision
making and look forward to take necessary steps to minimize it. ”I think we
players play well in T20 series. We have some place to improve; the coach
said it as well. We had some department where we could improve. We will work
on those,” he said.

The team management also focuses in keeping more wickets in hand while
going into the last 5 or 6 overs of the T20 game.

”That’s one of the key points. We have lost 6/7 wickets after 13 or 14
overs in the couple of matches in T20s which is not an ideal position to go
in a T20 match. Our captain and coach have already talked about it. We talked
in group. We have to prepare ourselves in training too.”
