BATB, edotco donate Tk 11.61cr for labours’ welfare

DHAKA, Sept 24, 2019 (BSS) – British American Tobacco Bangladesh ((BATB)
and mobile tower operating company edotco Bangladesh today donated Tk 11.61
crore, a part of their profits, to Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation
(BLWF).

BATB’s human resources department chief Sad Jasim and edotco managing
director Rahul Chowdhury handed over cheques of a total Tk 11, 61, 25,524 to
State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Mannujan Sifian at her
secretariat office here.

BATB donated Tk 101, 654,337 while edotco Tk 1, 44,71,188, said a press
release.

A total of 143 local and foreign companies are regularly donating to the
fund and a total of Tk 382 crore is now in the fund of the foundation after
disbursing Tk 30 crore among the 9,000 workers as assistance.

Chunnu further said Taka two lakh is given to the families of each laborer
died in workplace, Taka three lakh is given to children of any laborer
studying in medical, engineering and agricultural university and Taka 50,000
is given to the children studying in public university.

According to the labour law, the institutions have to contribute five
percent of their annual net profits for the welfare of workers.

Of the five percent, four portions are for their own workers, half portion
for their own workers’ labour welfare fund and the rest half for the fund of
BLWF.

Secretary of the ministry KM Ali Azam and Director General of BLWF Dr
Anisul Awal were present on the occasion, among others.
