Bangladesh enter semifinal in SAFF U-18 Championship

DHAKA, Sept 23, 2019 (BSS)- Bangladesh U-18 national football confirmed
their semifinal spot in the SAFF U-18 Championship as they played out a
goalless draw with India in their last group B encounter on Monday at APF
Stadium in Kathmandu, Nepal.

With the day’s outcome, Bangladesh secured four points from two matches
while India have collected one point from one outing.

Andrew Peter Turner, the head coach of the Bangladesh U-18 soccer team,
said he is pleased with the boys’ performance. He said, adding, “We had a
plan and every single player of the team have executed it but they were
unlucky as they could not win the match.”

Team’s manager Amir Khan said actually some planning is needed for the team
to qualify in any tournament. The players were able to give their 90 percent
in today’s match as instructed by their coach.

At first it was a matter for the team to qualify (in the semifinal) and
the rest would be looked in the semifinal, he added.

Earlier, Bangladesh blanked Sri Lanka by 3-0 goals in their group opening
match.

The group round matches will conclude on September 25 after which the top
two sides from each group will advance to the semi-finals scheduled for
September 27.

The final will be held on September 29. All the matches will be held at
APF Stadium in Kathmandu.
