Cops conduct drives in four city clubs

DHAKA, Sept 22, 2019 (BSS) – Police today conducted drives in four clubs,
including Mohammedan Sporting Club, in the city’s Motijheel area and seized a
good number of gambling equipment, liquour and Taka one lakh in cash.

Police simultaneously started drives at Mohammedan Sporting Club, Arambagh
Krira Sangha, Dilkusha Sporting Club and Victoria Sporting Club at about 3 pm
today and continued the drives till 4:45 pm,” additional deputy commissioner
of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Motijheel zone) Shiblee Noman told BSS.

Police seized different equipment of Casino from there, but none could be
arrested from the spots, Noman said, adding that suspects escaped the drives
sensing the presence of the law enforcers.

He said legal actions will be taken against the people involved in running
Casino and gambling in the country.

On September 18, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) raided at least five clubs in
Dhaka city and arrested Jubo League leader Khalid Mahmud Bhuiyan from his
Gulshan residence for allegedly running a ‘Casino’ at a football club in
Fakirerpool.

As part of its continuous drives in Casinos, Rab on Friday also arrested
Jubo League central committee leader SM Golam Kibria Shamim and seized around
Tk 1.80 crore and Fixed Deposit Receipt (FDR) worth Tk 165 crore from his
office in the city’s Niketan area.
