Two cops remanded afresh in narcotics case

DHAKA, Sept 19, 2019 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today placed two policemen on
one-day remand afresh in a case filed under Narcotics Control Act.

The two accused are Armed Police Battalion (APBn) constables Md Roni
Mollah, 21, and Md Shariful Islam, 23.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinur Rahman passed the order as
investigation officer and Uttara East Police Station Inspector Paridesh
Chandra produced the duo before court after end of their two-day remand and
pleaded to place them on five-day remand afresh.

Another court on September 16 placed the duo, alongside three other
disgraced policemen on remand in the case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kanak Barua placed Gulshan Police Station
assistant sub-inspector Masud Ahmed Miaji, 44, APBn constable Proshant
Mandal, 23, and nayek Md Jahangir Alam, 27, on three-day remand on that day,
while Md Roni Mollah and Md Shariful Islam were placed on two-day remand.

Being tipped off, Uttara East Police Station team and APBn detained the
five in separate raids on September 15.

According to the case documents, the accused on September 11, detained a
yaba paddler at a check post in Gulshan Gudara Ghat area. They however, let
the accused go, keeping the seized yaba to themselves for selling.
