Aminul keeps his feet to the ground amid debut success

CHATTOGRAM, September 19, 2019 (BSS)-Bangladesh leg-spinner Aminul Islam
Biplob kept his feet to the ground despite a success on his T20 debut,
knowing that he still needs to improve in many areas if he really wants to
thrive in the International cricket.

Aminul returned 2-18 on his first T20 match against Zimbabwe to help the
earn a clinical 39-run victory but what caught the attention was his
disciplined bowling and control, something which Bangladesh team management
didn’t get from the bowlers who gave the hopes that they could solve the
dearth of a leg-spinner in the country.

Jubair Hossain Likhon was considered to be Bangladesh’s leg-spinning
hope but his lack of control meant he was disappeared from the scene even
before he could give the glimpse of his talent.

There were some other leg-spinners also before Likhon but no one could
establish them and so Bangladesh didn’t get a wrist spinner even though they
have finger spinners in abundance.

Aminul was not a specialist leg-spinner like Likhon, instead he is first
a batsman than a leg-spinner but such was outcry for a leg-spinner in the
country that the team management decided to play him as a specialist wrist
spinner.

And who knows when a wrist spinner could give control, how dangerous he
could be! This is what made Aminul standout in just one match and therefore
accolades poured on him.

But the 19-year old seemed not to immerse into the praise rather he
emphasized on keeping control himself-both in his lifestyle and bowling.

“I feel self-control is the biggest thing,” Aminul said here on
Thursday. “It is important to control myself. I have seen the other bowlers
and saw what they did [and how they disappeared]. So I will try to control
myself and improve day by day. I will try to play well match by match.”

“I was really excited to play with the players whom I saw in television
from my childhood. It is a dream come true and matter of pride for me.”

He said that the senior players like captain Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur
Rahim and Mahmudullah gave him the confidence to do well in the match.

“I was nervous initially. But Shakib Al Hasan told me to bowl as I used
to do. Then Mahmudullah Riyad, Mushfiqur Rahim came to me and supported me.
They told me to land the ball in right areas and I just did that.”

“Shakib and Mahmudullah just said one thing that if a leg-spinner could
land the ball in right areas he will get success. I followed their advice
just.”

However Aminul didn’t expect that someday he would turn out to be a
bowler from a batsman.

“Even though I started the aged level cricket with a specialist bowler,
a shoulder injury prevented me from bowling. From then I played as specialist
batsman but when I came to High Performance programmer, I worked with Wahidul
Gani, Sohel Isalm with my leg-spin. Simon Helmot also worked on my bowling.”

“Honestly still I didn’t expect it. I have done well with A team and in
the Emerging series against Sri Lanka. My bowling was up to the mark. And
then I came here.”
