Dr Murad for creating awareness to prevent NCDs

DHAKA, Sept 18, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hasan
today laid emphasis on launching awareness campaign across the country for
preventing and controlling the spread of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

“Non-Communicable diseases are increasing alarmingly in the country… We
all should work together for checking the diseases,” he told at a workshop on
“Health Journalism” at the Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) here.

Bangladesh Manobidhikar Sangbadik Forum (BMSF) in cooperation with USAID
and Ujjibon organized the day long workshop, where a large number of
journalists from print, electronic and online media participated.

Director General of PIB Zafar Wazed, President of BMSF Enamul Kabir Rupom,
General Secretary Khairuzzaman Kamal, Journalist Selim Samad were present
with President of Bangladesh Health Reporters Forum Toufiq Maruf in the
chair.

Dr Murad said, “The increasing trend of Non-Communicable Diseases is a
global phenomenon due to people’s unhealthy lifestyle pattern… Life-
threatening non-communicable diseases are diabetes, cancers, high blood
pressure, kidney ailment and heart-disease.”

Among these common non-communicable diseases, diabetes is alone responsible
for many killer diseases, he said adding, diabetes affects different key
organs of the human body.

Referring to genetic factors of different NCDs, the state minister said
many factors including poor lifestyle and fast food consumption are the key
reason for developing these non-communicable diseases.

Journalists should write about the various aspects of non-commutable
diseases so that people would be aware about these diseases.

Dr Murad said Bangladesh has witnessed a remarkable progress in the health
sector as the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has
implemented massive programmes in the past 10 years.

“Community Clinic is a brainchild of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina… It
(community clinic) is now a role model for the world as rural people are
getting primary healthcare from community clinics,” he added.
