Two including ASI remanded in gold snatching case

DHAKA, Sept 18, 2019 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today placed two people
including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police on three-day remand each
in a case filed over gold snatching.

The accused are Shahbagh Police Station ASI Shahjahan Kabir and one
Alimuddin, a court official confirmed.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ziaur Rahman passed the order as police
produced the duo before court and pleaded to place them on seven-day remand
for the sake of proper investigation.

According to the case documents, ASI Shahjahan and his men on the
evening of September 14 stopped a bus in Shahbagh area and brought down two
passengers from it. They took the men to third gate of nearby Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and snatched four gold bars weighing
125 tolas, two mobile phones and cash Taka from them.

The victims later identified ASI Shahjahan Kabir at Shahbagh Police
Station and he confessed his involvement in front of the officer-in-charge.
Later the accused said he sold part of the snatched gold to Alimuddin, owner
of Asif Jewelers at capital’s Mouchak Market.
