SHERPUR, Sept 17, 2019 (BSS) – An eco park with over 100 species of fruit-
bearing, wood and medicinal trees have been set up on seven acres of land at
Urfa Kodal Doa village under Nokla upazila of the district.

An official of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) said, “Once it
was sand-dominated area… But now the newly built eco-park is filled with
different varieties of trees creating a scenic beauty in the locality. All
these are possible with intensive research works of agricultural scientists.”

The eco park located in Nokla upazila has brought change to the usual
conception as the eco park has been set up with popular varieties of flora,
said Deputy Director of Sherpur Office of DAE Md Ashraf Uddin.

He said initially, agriculture scientists were facing difficulties to grow
any variety of tree on the sand-dominated land.

Afterwards, scientists created favourable atmosphere to grow popular
native varieties of trees and they finally have become successful.

“This is how a largely sand mixed infertile land has turned into an eco
park…. Now the people in this locality are visiting the echo park as it has
already made charming places alongside production of different varieties of
fruits,” Ashraf added.

He said the park can be a sanctuary for birds and other species of animals.

According to experts, different species of animals and plants are facing
extinction due to destructive human behaviors in Bangladesh.

Such types of eco parks will help contribute to better ecosystem and
biodiversity, they added.
