79 business establishments fined Tk 4.90 lakh for adulteration

DHAKA, Sept 17, 2019 (BSS) – The Directorate of National Consumer Rights
Protection fined a total of 79 organisations across the country Taka 4.90
lakh for selling adulterated foods, cheating in weight and different
irregularities.

A total of 37 officials from the district and divisional level offices of
Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection led the drives across the
country on Monday with a view to ensuring the rights of consumers, said a
press release.

During the drive in city’s Hatirjheel area, ‘Muslim Sweets’, ‘Working
Style’ and ‘Swapno Express’ were fined a total amount of Taka 30,000 for
packaging products without mentioning retail price, added the release.

The teams of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection conducted
drives at 34 markets across the country and fined 74 business establishments
over Taka 4.32 lakh for selling and storing date-expired foods and medicines,
packaging products without mentioning retail price, cheating in weight and
not maintaining hygiene and safety standards of products.
