Bourses return to upward trend

DHAKA, Sept 16, 2019 (BSS) – Investors showed appetite to buy few large
cap stocks that steered the country’s capital bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange
(DSE), to the upward trend at the end of today’s session.

At DSE, the broad index DSEX registered inclined pace on Monday after last
two days flat ending. The core index, DSEX closed at 4959.73 points with a
gain of 17.49 points or 0.35 percent from the previous day.

Besides, the two selective indices, DSE30 increased by 16.81 points while
DSES increased a little by 1.36 points to stand at 1755.74 points and 1155.61
points respectively.

A total number of 118,463 trades were executed in today’s trading session
with a trading volume of 90.51 million securities. At DSE, 161 securities
gained price while 136 declined and 56 remained unchanged.

The market turnover increased from last day’s session and stood at Taka
3.88 billion which was 23 percent rise than Sunday.

Sector wise performance exposed that food (4.4pc), jute (3.0pc) and ceramic
(2.0pc) sectors experienced highest price appreciation while general
insurance (-1.4pc), mutual fund (-0.5pc) and life insurance (-0.4pc) sectors
experienced highest price correction in today’s session.

Investors’ buying pressure was mostly concentrated on telecommunication
(0.12pc), food and allied (0.37pc) and bank (0.4pc) sectors, according to
market operator, EBL Securities.

The top 10 gainers were GQ Ballpen, Quasem Industries, VFS Thread, Gemini
Sea Food, Stylecraft, Popular Life Insurance, British American Tobacco,
Standard Ceramic, Monno Stafflers and ML Dying.

Monno Stafflers topped the turnover list followed by National Tubes
Stylecraft, Monno Ceramic, Beacon Pharma, BSCCL, JMI Syringes, British
American Tobacco, Legacy Footwear and VFS Thread.

The top 10 losers were SEML FBSL Growth Fund, SEML IBBL Shariah Fund,
Usmania Glass, Dhaka Insurance, United Insurance, National Tubes, Continental
Insurance, Prime Finance First Mutual Fund, Atlas Bangla and Premier
Insurance.

On the other hand, the port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)
ended session in green. CSCX and CASPI increased by 54.38 and 89.00 points
respectively.

At CSE, a total of 5,352,567 shares and mutual fund of 247 companies were
traded, of which 125 issues advanced while 86 declined and 36 issues remained
unchanged.
